Have you looked in your spice cupboard (yes I have a cupboard devoted to spices) or drawer lately? Spices lose their oomph the longer they're kept. According to Govt guides freshness dating is four years for whole spices and two years for ground. Some only keep spices for 6 months (sounds expensive).
